Owner checklist

  • Enter the EU within 10 days of endorsement

For a US departure the binding window is that you ENTER the EU within 10 days of APHIS endorsement. After entry, the certificate covers onward EU travel for six months from the entry checks, capped by the rabies vaccination's expiry.

  • Switzerland/Liechtenstein: Amicus dog registration on import + entry points

Switzerland and Liechtenstein use the same EU baseline (no CH/LI-specific certificate). Entry control is mandatory: present the animal at the red customs channel, and for a direct third-country air arrival use Basel, Geneva or Zurich (unaccompanied: Geneva or Zurich only); the non-commercial cap is 5 animals. Amicus registration is an IMPORT duty, not a visitor duty — if you are bringing a dog to CH/LI to keep it there you must already be recorded as a dog holder with your commune, and the dog must be presented to a vet within 10 days of import so its identification is checked and registered in Amicus (commune registration + dog tax apply). Dogs brought in temporarily for a holiday or other short stay are exempt from that registration check.

    Applies to: dog

  • Switzerland/Liechtenstein: entry control and points of entry

Switzerland and Liechtenstein use the same EU baseline (no CH/LI-specific certificate). Entry control is mandatory: present the animal at the red customs channel, and for a direct third-country air arrival use Basel, Geneva or Zurich (unaccompanied: Geneva or Zurich only); the non-commercial cap is 5 animals. Amicus registration is a DOG duty under the Swiss TSV and the Liechtenstein Hundegesetz, so it does not apply to a cat or a ferret.

    Applies to: cat or ferret
