  • Accompanied dogs and cats: no import application, notice, or landing permit required

Travelling WITH your dog or cat as accompanied baggage (the same flight/vehicle, in cabin or hold), you do NOT need to: file an import/entry application with SENASA beforehand, give advance notice to the arrival border post, or obtain a SENASA landing/disembarkation permit. On arrival, SENASA verifies your documents (CVI or legalized passport) and the animal's identity — that is the whole process. (This does not apply to cargo/unaccompanied shipments — see the separate row below.)

  • Cargo (unaccompanied) shipments: 24-business-hour border-post notice — still no import application

This only applies if your pet travels as cargo/unaccompanied (not with you on the same flight or vehicle) — it does NOT apply to a pet travelling with you. For cargo, the transport agent or shipper must give the arrival border post at least 24 business hours' advance notice. There is still no SENASA import application to file, even for cargo shipments.

  • Internal + external parasite treatment within 15 days Required

A licensed vet administers internal + external antiparasitic treatment within 15 days before travel, recorded on the export certificate. Confirm this before travel; Petra does not track parasite treatment.

  • Under-3-month exemption: age + 90-day urban-rabies-free property certification Required

Because this pet is under 3 months old, rabies vaccination is NOT required — but in its place SENASA requires a veterinary certification that (1) the animal is under 90 days old, and (2) the animal has not been on any property where a case of urban rabies occurred during the 90 days before travel. Obtain it from your vet and tick this off; the trip is not ready without it. (This item only appears for under-90-day pets.)

Applies up to 89 days old

Still decided outside Petra

  • The Argentina international veterinary certificate is completed and APHIS-endorsed outside Petra (Phase 2); Petra records that it was accepted, not that Petra issued it.
