Owner checklist
-
Travel within 5 days of your pet
For ordinary non-commercial travel, your pet must enter Great Britain within 5 days before or after you. Outside that window it counts as commercial import with stricter rules.
-
APHIS endorsement within 10 days of arrival
USDA APHIS must endorse the health certificate, and the endorsement must be completed within 10 days of arrival in Great Britain. Build the APHIS turnaround into your timeline.
-
Sign the non-commercial declaration Required
You (or an authorised person travelling with your pet) sign this official GOV.UK form to confirm your pet will not be sold or transferred to a new owner in the UK.
-
Approved route + manifest cargo
Enter via an approved air/sea/tunnel route. Pets flying normally travel as manifest cargo, not checked baggage or in the cabin (a UK-recognised assistance dog may be an exception — confirm with the airline AND the arrival airport before booking).
-
Airline brachycephalic + breed restrictions
Some carriers refuse short-nosed breeds or certain dog breeds. Confirm with the airline at booking, not at the gate.
