Owner checklist

  • Pit-bull-type breeds are prohibited Required

Colombia prohibits the import of pit-bull-type breeds. Confirm your dog's breed is not on the restricted list before booking travel; Petra has no breed data to check this itself.

  • Rabies: first-time dose ≥21 days before shipment, pet 15 weeks or older

The certificate requires the animal to be 15 weeks of age or older to enter on the rabies-vaccinated pathway. For a first-time rabies vaccination, the dose must have been given at least 21 days before the shipment date. An on-time booster with no lapse has no wait. (Animals under 15 weeks follow the unvaccinated / home-quarantine pathway below instead.) Petra enforces this timing structurally via the rabies_wait requirement below.

  • Under 15 weeks: unvaccinated entry requires a home quarantine Required

Animals under 15 weeks of age may enter without a rabies vaccination, but entry is conditional on a home quarantine, during which the pet must be vaccinated against rabies by a private veterinarian or zootechnical veterinary doctor with professional registration, using vaccines registered by ICA in Colombia. Obtain and retain that documentation, then tick this off. (This item only appears for under-15-week pets.)

Applies up to 104 days old

  • Antiparasitic treatment within 60 days of shipment Required

Internal + external antiparasitic treatment is mandatory for both cats and dogs and must be applied within 60 days prior to shipment, recorded on the certificate (product name, active ingredient, and administration date for each).

  • Entry certificate (CIS) issued at the airport

Accompanied pets do NOT need a pre-arrival ICA import permit; ICA issues the CIS (Certificado de Inspección Sanitaria) at the airport on arrival.

Still decided outside Petra

  • The Colombia veterinary health certificate is completed and endorsed outside Petra (Phase 2); Petra records that it was accepted, not that Petra issued it.
  • The 60-day antiparasitic window and the 15-week rabies age gate are sourced from the APHIS-issued Colombia-specific certificate PDF itself, not from ICA's own published page text, which does not state these numbers.
